North Thames Graduate Psychologists Group (NTGPG) & BME

Today I received this poster from the North Thames Graduate Psychology group. It is promoting an event which is to take place on Friday. I understand that it is going to create a platform to discuss diversity in the field of Clinical Psychology. Unfortunately, I don't foresee myself being able to attend, as I start my new job on Monday (yay!).

It's no secret that one of the main issues in Clinical Psych (with regards to it's Drs) is that it currently lacks diversity. People of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, religions, ethnicities and languages with different physical abilities are welcomed, but those who are under represented are urged to apply to tackle the imbalance that currently exists. I'm aware that BME (black and minority ethnic group) schemes have been set up to offer voluntary work opportunities, but I am unsure of how people who disabilities are being supported?

I'd be interested to find out how other prospective/training/qualified Clinical Psychologists feel about this issue.

Do you have any ideas of how this issue can be resolved?

Do you know of any/are you on a BME or other scheme?

By the way, I feel that the North Thames Graduate psychologist group is well worth signing up to. I like it because it's very current and up to date. I've found that some Clinical Psych websites haven't been changed or maintained for years, but NTGPG has a committee (which you can apply to be on), and regularly sets up and promotes talks that are of interest to us budding CPs. Their website is quite cool (resembles a comic strip), and has some really useful information on finding jobs with some "Dos" and "Donts". So I say go for it! It's free, and it's easy!
